La Fuente Estate - Timeless Hacienda Living in Turrúcares, Costa Rica
La Fuente Estate is a private luxury hacienda located in Turrúcares, Alajuela, within one of the most strategic and tranquil areas of Costa Rica's Central Valley. This large-scale estate blends timeless architecture, expansive gardens, and uncommon versatility, offering an ideal setting for refined residential living as well as boutique projects or other high-level alternative uses.
Built approximately 25 years ago by the renowned firm PIASA as a retirement residence for a senior executive of a multinational company, the property reflects thoughtful planning, solid construction quality, and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. From the main entrance, the home is introduced through an elegant open front courtyard centered around a distinctive fountain that gives the estate its identity and creates a serene sense of arrival. Covered corridors, walking paths, and ramps naturally connect the different areas of the property, including the parking areas, allowing for comfortable and functional circulation throughout, including accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility.
The main residence is organized around courtyards, terraces, and covered walkways that reinforce its private hacienda character. Clay tile roofs, arches, columns, and terracotta flooring add warmth and architectural coherence, while high ceilings and double-height spaces enhance the sense of openness and natural light. The interior social areas stand out for their generous proportions. The main living room features a double-height ceiling and opens onto a spacious covered terrace that connects directly to the gardens and pool area. Adjacent spaces include a formal dining room or music room, a billiards room, and a thoughtfully designed guest powder room, creating an ideal environment for entertaining and social living.
The kitchen, classic in style with Italian influence, is both spacious and highly functional. It features a large central island, granite countertops, a gas cooktop with grill, pantry, wine refrigerator, and equipment suited for everyday living as well as hosting gatherings. From the kitchen, there is direct access to a covered terrace with a bar and BBQ area that integrates naturally with the front garden and fountain, further strengthening the indoor-outdoor flow. Connected to the main house and oriented toward the pool is an independent studio with a double-height ceiling, ideal as a private office, creative space, or wellness area.
The private bedroom wing is separated from the main social areas and is organized around a circular central lobby with a double-height ceiling, providing privacy and an efficient layout. The property offers a total of six bedrooms and five full bathrooms. The primary suite is especially spacious, with direct access to a private terrace leading to the pool, a generous walk-in closet, and an en-suite bathroom featuring double vanities, a separate shower, and a jacuzzi tub. The additional bedrooms offer a variety of configurations, including Jack-and-Jill bathrooms, walk-in closets, built-in storage, and independent access, significantly expanding the property's flexibility for family members, guests, or staff.
Outdoors, the estate unfolds as a true oasis. The swimming pool, designed for lap swimming, includes both covered and open areas, a lateral pergola, and spaces planned for future expansions. Nearby, a rancho with ceiling fans, BBQ area, and an upper-level lookout offers views over the tennis court and the property grounds. Pathways and ramps wind through the gardens, connecting each area beneath mature Guanacaste trees that provide shade, privacy, and a park-like atmosphere.
The property is further enhanced by a large entertainment building, ideal as an event hall, private gym, or multifunctional space, a fully equipped home cinema, and an independent caretaker's house located at the entrance, complete with living room, dining area, kitchen, and three bedrooms. Solar panels supplying the home and heating the pool reinforce an efficient and environmentally conscious approach.
Due to its scale, location, and thoughtful layout, La Fuente Estate offers exceptional versatility as a private residence, retirement property, or boutique project, all just minutes from services, Juan Santamaría International Airport, and the country's main transportation routes.
